Eating Problems, Self Harming and suicidal.

The way I coped with the pain was by hating me.  I used to have eating problems, I self harmed and had suicidal feelings.

Karen says: ‘I grew up in a world of pain and confusion.  My mother and father had married and divorced themselves twice. My mothers’ pain led her to be unreliable and unable to show me, or my sisters, any affection.

Learning to cope with an untrusting and unloving world was difficult for me.  My dislike of myself enabled me to hurt myself through cutting and controlling what I ate.  I spent days feeling suicidal and a burden.  The pain of my parents life was too much for me to bear and nothing in life seemed worth fighting for, until I found Jesus.

During my teenage years, I felt lonely and isolated.  I found relief from the turmoil through cutting myself and trying to control things through my eating.  However, the more I stopped eating, the worse I felt.

At 18, I travelled to New Zealand and stayed with a family with ten children.  It was there, amongst all their love and kindness, I came to realise that my life didn’t have to be in crisis anymore.  The family were Christians and attending church was a part of their Sunday routine.  The first time I went I thought it was so weird.  I was raised a Catholic and the Mass seemed so different compared to their service.  I felt uncomfortable and nervous about going to church but I also recognised that I had come into contact with people who really knew Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, not just someone to look at on the Cross.  I needed the love of God for myself, so after a few months I surrendered my life to Jesus.

Life has totally changed for me.  Knowing His love and purpose for my life enables me to respect myself and my body.  From a life of worthlessness, total darkness and pain, I now have hope and life.  Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life,” through belief in Him I have found this to be true.’

If you want to know Jesus, like Karen, then please consider:

1. Are you prepared to surrender control of your life into God’s hands.
2. Do you desire to be free of your sin and want to accept the offer of forgiveness through Jesus?

If both are yes, please pray the following:

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Forgive me for all I have done which offended you. I want you to be the Lord of my life. Thank you for saving me.  I ask you Holy Spirit to come and fill me with your presence to strengthen my life.  Give me hope for tomorrow and hunger for your Word and Ways.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
