Fear not, for I am with you

Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

This verse from the Bible was given to me the day before my 4th child was born. I must admit, I thought this an odd verse to give someone just about to have a baby. Even more so, seeing as I had lost my second child in a full term stillbirth. Instead of alarming me, it made me feel angry; why should I be dismayed again? I concluded this verse way off track and put it to the back of my mind.

May 3rd 2002, Jasmine arrives, alive and breathing. Thank you God. Joy and relief, only short lived however, as we discover Jasmine has down syndrome and any number of other things could be wrong with her.

By the age of 2, hospital walls were all too familiar and the cusp between life and death had been painfully visited. Jasmine had also been banned by medical professionals from ever eating or drinking anything. Her swallow was unsafe and a feeding tube had been put in her tummy to protect her lungs from food or drink going into them.

It is at this time, God makes me a promise. He promises me that her feeding button will be temporary. This in utter contrast to what we’d been told.

So convinced I was, of God’s promise, I decided to try Jasmine with a small piece of toast, which she miraculously chewed and swallowed!

7 years later; a few amazing encounters with God and some tussles with the medical professionals, Jasmine had her feeding button closed. She is eating and drinking normally and she loves it!

Should I have been dismayed? Was God with me? Did He strengthen, uphold and help me? YES! He was true to His word.
