Until we meet again, Vicky Taylor…

If you have been a Free Range Chick for any time, you will have heard that the wonderful Vicky0d7ad46 Taylor, Founder of Free Range Chicks, has gone to be with her Lord. I write this, still in shock and with not a small amount of sadness that I will never see her or speak with her again until that glorious day that I am reunited with her and our Father in heaven when it is time for me to be called home.

When someone we love very much dies, particularly someone so close to our Lord, it can feel as though it doesn’t make sense. “How can God do this to me/her family/her friends/her ministry?” we cry.

I find Corrie Ten Boom’s ‘Life is but a Weaving’ poem a huge comfort at times like these:

‘My life is but a weaving
Between my God and me.
I cannot choose the colours
He weaveth steadily.

Oft’ times He weaveth sorrow;
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I the underside.

Not ’til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas
And reveal the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned

He knows, He loves, He cares;
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives the very best to those
Who leave the choice to Him’

We can not allow the legacy that God inspired in Vicky, that she nurtured, grew and empassioned within us, to die with her. She heard the cries of lost women, and it is our job, as Free Range Chicks, to continue the work she began, to bring our friends, our family, the strangers who God puts in our paths, to meet with Him.

We do this by inviting them to Free Range Chicks events – The National Conference is in November.   We do it by inviting them in for coffee, praying with them, having a listening heart and a willingness to be led in what we think, say and do by our Lord and Saviour. We do it by continuing the amazing work of Dignity in providing sanitary provision and education for girls in Africa.

We do it for our Father in Heaven and in memory of one of his beloved daughters and loyal witnesses.

Until we meet again, Vicky.

If you’d like to send us a message or share a memory of Vicky with the Team and her family, we’d love to hear from you.
