Work on the garden is progressing well! Volunteers have been busy clearing the site and now the new design is beginning to take shape! Turf has been laid and planting will begin in earnest over the coming weeks. We can’t wait to see the garden when it’s finished.
The Joanna Project is a Leeds based charity that works with vulnerable, hard to reach women. They are women who are trapped by life controlling addictions and who are often involved in street prostitution with all the exploitation and danger that involves.
The project hold fast to the belief that all women are loved by God and that no one is beyond hope. Many women use their drop in centre and lives are being touched, changed and transformed.
This drop in centre was opened last year, although the project itself has been running for much longer. At the back of the building is a neglected south facing space that is crying out for transformation!
Angharad Turner- Fielder, a trustee and volunteer at Joanna has had the vision to turn it into something beautiful. A space of relaxation, peace and tranquillity for these vulnerable women to enjoy.
Joanna has teamed up with a local landscape architect, Alan Nowell, who is donating his time to the project. He has spent time listening to the women who use the centre and, based on their ideas, has come up with a fantastic garden design. A garden that will bring a sense of dignity, well being and restoration to the women – enhancing everything else that the Joanna project strives to do in their lives.
We are excited about the plans for this garden and will be following its progress closely!
