How to be a Game Changer.

At Free Range Chick’s Game Changers conference, I was immensely challenged (after GC 4munching on far too much chocolate, is there such a thing as too much?!) and watching an inspirational TED talk by Benjamin Zander on music and passion.

Whilst eating tuck, I was transfixed by this passionate man who absolutely stopped me in my tracks when he asked the question;

“What is it that I am doing that stops other people’s eyes shining”?!

I started off by saying, “Wow”, and then “gulp”!

This isn’t a comfortable question. It’s a question that requires me to look deeply into my character and to honestly ask myself, “How does my character impact the lives of those around me?”

I’m reminded once again of the words of dear Vicky Taylor;

“Every contact we make leaves a trace”.

Every time I speak to someone, every time I am in the presence of others, my body language, the words I speak and my physical actions have an impact on those around me. They have the ability to build a person up or they can tear a person down. They can speak the truth in love or they can speak accusatory words which seek to bring hurt.

The Bible says, ‘We are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ’ 2 Corinthians 2:15.  The fragrance of Christ is a beautiful scent which emanates the very essence of Jesus’ character. It’s a scent which brings unconditional love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, self-control, grace and mercy. We can acquire the pleasing aroma of Christ by spending time in the presence of Jesus, earnestly seeking His face, learning more about Him through reading the Bible and allowing His fragrance, His pleasing aroma, to rub off onto us and to influence the lives of others.

This is a fragrance I long for in every area of my life. I know I carry this fragrance but I long for more, to emanate the very essence of Jesus in every area of my life. This weekend we learnt that there is always more, there’s a hunger that we can have that brings us to a place where there is more. Today I choose to intentionally allow the fragrance of Christ to rub off onto me.

How? By giving Him the first fruits of the day, being in His presence, reading His truth. May His pleasing fragrance ripple out of me into the lives of others bringing His unconditional love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, self-control, grace and mercy causing people’s eyes to shine and drawing the, closer to Him.
