Daughter of the King – You were made to Soar!

I love a good, full-on storm. They remind me of the power and magnificence of our mountain-moving God. The storms of life are inevitable. I can’t say I love them like I love a full blown storm but I’m clouds-1246602_1280learning that when the storms of life come, which the Bible says they will, our mountain-moving God invites us to place our hope in Him, that He may build our spiritual muscles of endurance, renew our strength, and place us in a position where we can truly wait on Him. Glide, rest and soar with Him.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31

Eagles are magnificent birds of prey. Let’s explore some truths about eagles. I think these truths will help us to understand a little more why God’s desire is for us to soar on wings like eagles with Him.

eagles-1206429_1280A group of eagles is called a “convocation”; from the Latin “convicore” meaning “to call, come together”. A translation of the Greek is a group of people who come together and formally assemble for a special purpose. As “daughters of the King” we are “a chosen people a Royal Priesthood, God’s special possession, that we may declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness and into His wonderful light” (1Peter 2 v9) and proclaim His good news. We are called by God for a special purpose, to be in a relationship with Him through His loving Son Jesus and to proclaim His good news.

Eagles love a storm. Eagles get excited when the clouds gather. They search for the “wing of the storm” and once they have found it they use the raging storm to lift them high above the clouds where they can soar. Being high above the clouds allows them to both glide and rest their wings.

I’m pretty sure I’m not alone when I say the storms of life don’t excite me like a storm excites eagles. However, what does excite me is that as “daughters of the King” our loving, good Father invites us to place our hope in Him. He invites us to place the storms of life into His hands so that He can cause us to soar high above the clouds with Him, placing us in a position where we can truly wait on Him. Glide, rest. Allowing Him to envelop us and not the storm we face.

The incredible vision of an eagle allows it to see five basic colours whereasbirds-217591_1280 we see three. They have a million light sensitive cells per square mm of retina, five times that of a human, allowing them to swoop down and catch even well camouflaged prey from incredible distances. Never allowing any obstacle to deter them from the prize that they have their eyes fixed on, namely dinner!

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14

As “daughters of the King” God’s desire is that we fix our eyes on Him, and that we press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called us. Not allowing anything to deter us, but with the single-mindedness of an eagle who is completely focused on getting their prize. God’s desire is that we lay aside anything that could deter us from running the race and winning the prize for which He has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.

stellar-sea-eagle-1641672_1280When an eagle spots a snake with its piercing eyes it swoops down and picks it up. The eagle intentionally chooses not to fight the snake on the ground. The eagle changes the battleground. Once in the eagle’s beak, high in the air, the snake becomes powerless and vulnerable, enabling the eagle to disarm it from its slithery, deadly ways. As “daughters of the King”, God has equipped us to take a stand against the enemy. The enemy will do anything to try and knock us out of the race. Let’s not fight the enemy on the ground, in His comfort zone. Instead, like eagles, let’s change the battleground and intentionally choose to lift the slithery, stealthy ways of the enemy to our victorious God; trusting Him alone to disarm the deadly ways of the enemy.

You may be facing a storm or even be in the middle of one. I pray that we would all accept God’s invitation to place our hope in Him. To place all areas of our lives into His loving hands so that He may renew our strength. Allowing Him to place us in a position where we can truly wait on Him; rest and soar with Him on wings like eagles.
