Dignity Fund Respect Me report

At the start of 2019, the Dignity Fund donated £1000 to support the amazing Respect Me charity. This covered their work in a secondary school in Manchester.

Age-appropriate sessions were taught across several year groups, to over 300 pupils  with topics including relationships and sex, self-esteem, bullying and positive relationships and sexting.

In the different groups, between 80-97% of the children said they found the sessions useful, and similar numbers said that what they had learned would affect their choices in the future.

Staff commented on the positive content of the sessions, and how the activities were able to engage the children well.

Some of the feedback from the children about what they learnt includes:

  • “It helped me understand sex and relationships more.”
  • “You shouldn’t be made to do something you don’t want to do.”
  • “Respect yourself.”
  • “I am important to people”
  • “Everyone has value”
  • “I know that I don’t need to be pressured into doing something I don’t want to do and still feel liked.”
  • “Knowing the safety and dangers of sexting”
  • “It has shown me that I am loved by Jesus”
  • “Learning that no matter what has happened you will always have self-worth”
  • “I am worth more than I think”

The school SEN and Safeguarding Manager said, ‘Thank you so much for the funding to make this happen, we very much appreciate the fact that you have helped us equip our children with skills and information to make healthier and safer choices.’
We also want to say a huge thankyou to everyone who has so generously donated to the Dignity Fund, so that we can support much needed initiatives like Respect Me!
